With China's economic development and the deepening of globalization,China's export growth is more rapid since the 21 st century.Almost at the same time, the role of intellectual property protection in international trade is also increasingly prominent with the development of trade.Since "Agreement On Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights"(TRIPs)was signed in 1994,more countries pay attention to protecting Intellectual Property Rights. To such a big trading country China, how the change of importer's intellectual property rights effecting China's export growth is worth further study. With the Heterogeneous Firm Trade Theory, this paper will study the effects of importer's Intellectual Property Protection on China's export growth in terms of three margins.Taking advantage of the HS-6 digit trade data of China's export to 69 countries and regions from 2005 to 2013.This paper describes the structure of China's export growth, and decomposes the total Chinese export to extensive margin, price margin and quantity margin.Based on the decomposition, this paper both theoretically and empirically analyses the response of China's export margins to intellectual property rights protection. On theoretical aspect,we analyze the effects of intellectual property rights protection on the extensive margin, the price margin and the quantity margin by Market Expansion Effect and Market Power Effect. On empirical aspect,we do empirical study using the data of intellectual property rights protection coming from The World Competitiveness Report published in World Economic Forum. From both the static and the dynamic point of view,We find that stronger intellectual property protection contributes to the increase of both extensive margin and quantity margin, but does not have a significant influence on price margin. At last, according to our empirical result,we make some proposals: China should change its export model of expanding export by quantity, enhance innovative ability and promote stronger intellectual property rights protection.
