Research On The Evolution Of Business Ecosystem

With the process of economic integration, the speed of economic development and technological progress accelerated, enterprises stand in a more complex environment. In order to adapt to rapid changes of the external environment, to create and sustain competitive advantage, the relationship between enterprises has also undergone significant changes, which transition from the traditional competition among single enterprise to the competition among its business ecosystem. Enterprise groups within the system complete all activities of providing products or services to the market through cooperative operation. The member enterprises of business ecosystem are coordination and cooperation, mutual restraint, mutual benefit and winwin, achieving sustainable development and sustainable development in the process of creating value and sharing value. Through literature study, we find that few scholars researched on the evolution of business ecosystem, and the research on the evolution of particular business ecosystem is less. Thus, this paper deeply researches on the evolution of business ecosystem and the co-evolution among its member enterprises.On the basis of previous studies, this paper summarizes the research status about business ecosystem and its evolution both domestic and foreign. Firstly, we theoretically analysis the evolution of business ecosystem, mainly comparative analysis the evolution of natural ecosystems and business ecosystem, and summarize the process and dynamic of the evolution of business ecosystem. Then, we take the PC business ecosystem as object of study, and analysis its evolution both from the perspective of qualitative and quantitative.(1) From the perspective of qualitative, we analysis the process and dynamic of the evolution of PC business ecosystem. The research indicates that the “variation”, “retention”, “coopetition” and “selection” driven the PC business ecosystem evolved from "single core" business ecosystem, initially leading by IBM, into "triple core" business ecosystem, which is dominated by IBM, Microsoft and Intel, and further evolved into "dual core" business ecosystem, which was dominated by Microsoft and Intel.(2) From the perspective of quantitative, we analysis the co-evolution of PC business ecosystem, mainly explore the collaboration of strategic, technical and product among enterprises, and measure the effect of collaboration among enterprises by using the method of gray relational analysis. The result shows that the degree of collaboration among enterprises is different.The innovation points of this paper are as follows.(1) Based on theory the business ecosystem, we analysis the process and dynamics of the evolution of PC business ecosystem, and construct the model of the main structure of the four stages, namely formation, growth, maturity and renewal. We analyze the dynamics of the evolution of PC business ecosystem from the frame of “variation”, “retention”, “coopetition” and “selection”. This helps to fully understand the characteristics and laws of the evolution of various business ecosystems.(2) Based on the sales data of member enterprises of PC business ecosystem, we analyze the effect of co-evolution of PC business ecosystem by using the method of gray relational analysis. This can provide reference for analyzing the co-evolution of other business ecosystems.
