Analysis Of The Status Of Banana Industry In Maoming City And The Research On The Demand Of Science And Technology

Banana has a long history of cultivation in Maoming City, as early as the beginning of the Ming Dynasty commodity culture, but the development of banana production is slow. Since China adopted the reform and opening-up policy and market economy, a large number of banana in Maoming has been purchased and transported to the North. Thus, the famers has gained good economic benefits and their motivation of cultivating banana has been greatly improved. The banana cultivating areas has been expanded greatly, and in 1996 Maoming was named “the Largest Fruit Production Base of China". The Maoming banana has gained a good reputation both at home and abroad for its large plantation area, great yield, good quality and good profits, and has attracted many leaders and farmers from neighboring provinces and cities to study their experience. Then it rose of a new round of banana cultivation. Until 2014, banana planting area of Maoming reached 41,300 hectares, annual output was 1,638,200 tons, and annual value of production was 6.811 billion yuan. The banana industry has become an important support industry of the rural economy in Maoming, and is an important income source of some farmers. But with the development of the large areas of banana production in Maoming and other surrounding provinces and cities, the banana industry has facing new opportunities and challenges. This study was carried out under the above background. The status of banana industry in Maoming City was analyzed from the aspects of the banana cultivation history, varieties, cultivation techniques, harvest and preservation in this paper. The problems of the science and technology exiting in the banana industry development of Maoming City was also analyzed, and the demand of science and technology and the strategies for promoting the sustainable development of the banana industry in Maoming City was further proposed. This study has important theoretical significance to fill the shortage of banana industrialization in Maoming City.
