Research On Wage Differential Between Urban-Rural Workers

In recent years,with the rapid development of Chinese economy and the continuous deepening of the reform of household registration system,China's unified labor market has been gradually formed,China is experiencing a remarkable migration tide,rural workers are constantly going to big cities to find opportunities.However,the problem is that,due to various factors,wages of migrant workers are significantly different from urban workers,which led to the increasing difference between urban and rural household registration wage in urban labor market.What is the main influencing factor of household registration in urban and rural areas,human capital factors or household registration discrimination? In view of this problem,this articleresearches the status quo of the differencesof household registration wage in urban and rural labor market and its composition,trying to explain the causes of the differences between urban and rural household registration wages.According to the survey data from 2007 to 2002(CHIPS),the paper includes plentful index information of the two groups of urban workers(urban household)and migrant workers(rural household).Firstly,the Mincer wage equation and Oaxaca decomposition are used to analyze the difference between urban and rural household registration.Then,using quantile regression to decompose the difference of the overall distribution of rural household registration,the perspective is extended to the entire wage level,to further investigate the trend of change of household registration wage differentials in different wage distribution.It is found that the main factors that affect the differences of household registration in urban and rural areas are the differences among the human capital factors among different household groups.Therefore,the elimination of household registration discrimination does not eliminate the differences between urban and rural household registration in nature.To improve the human capital ability of migrant workers' group can improve their professional competitiveness and reduce the difference between urban and rural household registration.Amongfactors of human capital,the education level is the main one that causes the difference between wages of urban and rural household registration,so the most fundamental and effective way to narrow the gap between urban and rural household registration is to popularize basic education,promote educational equity,improve cultural level of the rural population,and narrow the cultural differences between urban and rural areas.Finally,this paper also analyzes the impact of other human capital factors on the differences between urban and rural household registration,and put forward some countermeasures and suggestions on this basis.
