IC (Circuit Integrated) design enterprises belong to the knowledge-intensive enterprises (KIBS). For such enterprises, effectively carry out the knowledge flow management helps creating or maintaining its competitive advantages. As Knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer is the important part of knowledge management, its development and application in various organizations still face restrictions and barriers, such as organizational barriers, personal barriers and technology barriers, etc. X company is an IC design service provider, hops to transfer the existing experience and knowledge into the source of enterprise innovation and increase in value through the sharing and transfer of R&D knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to determine the knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer barriers in the R&D Department of X company, and to provide reference for X companies, as well as in the same industry or similar cases of KIBS enterprises.Based on the knowledge barriers model of Riege(2005), and I pull in trusting relationships and motivation to build up a new model which applicable to the knowledge barriers of X company's R&D dept. I used mixed method research, which includes qualitative research and quantity research. I used interview with open-ended questions to collect data for qualitative research. Data was analyzed by the coding system and by finding the common relationships and patterns. For the quantitative research, I used the questionnaire with close-ended questions. Data was analyzed by statistics methods. Results showed that the most critical factors that impact on knowledge transfer and knowledge sharing was organization barriers, second was personal barriers and the 3rd was technology barriers. In view of the above research results, I proposed several solutions and made follow-up improvement to overcome these barriers, and hope they would help improve the efficiency of X company's R&D knowledge transfer and knowledge sharing.
