Study On Outlets Construction Of Shanghai Commercial And Savings Bank (1915-1945)

Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank(Shanghai Bank in brief)founded in June 1915,was the largest private commercial Banks during the period of the Republic of China.In the beginning,Shanghai Bank was called to be ‘Tiny Bank’ because of its initial enterprise capital of 100 thousand yuan.After twenty years’ operating,Shanghai Bank developed into an enormous size,and owned the third most branch offices,next to Bank of China and Bank of Communications.During the Anti-Japanese War,the amount of branch offices of Shanghai Bank reduced sharply,and Shanghai Bank had to move to the southwest of China as well as the government,factories,colleges and other banks.The thesis consists of three parts.Part one concentrates on the development process of outlets construction of Shanghai Bank and features in different stages.The second part tries to explore the factors such as political、economic、social factors which influenced of outlets construction of Shanghai Bank and how these factors affect it.The last part affirms the positive action of outlets construction of Shanghai Bank in promoting banking and regional economic development,and points out its limitations.It hopes that this paper will give a glimpse into the relations between private commercial Banks and the change of eras through the study of outlets construction of Shanghai Bank in different periods.In a complex and changeable situation,Shanghai Bank tried hard to keep distance with the government,and adhere to the concept of serving society,so that the bank itself and the regional economic development achieved win-win.
