In order to research the influence of the composition of emulsion type spinning oil on the emulsification effect and emulsion properties,a series spinning oil emulsions were prepared by taking lauric acid polyoxyethylene ester(LAE-9)and polyethylene oleic acid diester(DQA)as emulsifier, and more than 30%oleic acid ester(QA)as the lubricant. The emulsion particle size, turbidity, conductivity, viscosity, interfacial tension, contact angle and wettability of these emulsions were measured. The results show that, with the increase of QA content at different emulsifier composition, correspondingly the emulsion become more and more transparent and stable with a decreasing average emulsion particle size and a narrower particle size distribution, while the oil-water interfacial tension of emulsion decreases.Till the content of lubricant increases to a certain value, the emulsion becomes turbid suddenly with an increase in both the emulsion particle size and the oil-water interfacial tension of emulsion and the particle size distribution turns wider. In a conclusion, the oil-water interfacial tension of emulsion determines the effect of emulsification. Moreover, the 'greater the proportion of the lipophilic emulsifier DQA is,the higher is the lubricant concentration while the emulsion shows the minimum emulsion particle size.In addition, there is a positive correlation between the emulsion turbidity and average particle size, namely the bigger the emulsion particle size is,the turbidity of emulsion becomes greater. These emulsions exhibit a phase-inversion process from oil in water emulsion to water in oil emulsion with the increase of emulsion concentration. There is a correlation between the electrical conductivity and viscosity as follows:the increase of conductivity to a stable stage corresponds to the slowly rising stage of viscosity, which results in an oil-in-water(O/W)emulsion;the drastic decrease in conductivity corresponds to the mutation stage of viscosity, which causes the coexistence of O/W and water-in-oil(W/O)emulsions;the gradual decrease in conductivity from a low value corresponds to the slow decline stage of viscosity, which leads to a W/O emulsion. In addition, the viscosity of emulsions are significantly reduced by polyether type surfactants in the phase inversion process and exhibit the greatest decline with a dosage of 0.5wt%H-1.Some emulsion properties, such as surface tension, the contact angle on the surface of the polypropylene fiber and the wetting time of canvas in emulsion were measured systematically. The result shows that these properties all decrease with the increase of emulsion concentration. At the same time, the emulsion shows a critical micelle concentration(CMC):as the emulsion concentration is less than CMC,these properties decrease rapidly with the increase of the emulsion concentration, while it's more than this concentration, the influence of emulsion concentration on those properties become smaller.Besides, the increase of both the mass fraction of the lubricating agent and the emulsifier HLB will result in a worse wettability, though those two factors are negligible by compared with the effect of concentration.
