stick was ignited and put on the end of the needle on Dazhui with the burning side facing the skin, which would make the skin warm and red.The needles were retained for 20min.Patients received the treatment three times a week.Patients in controlled group were treated by Loratadine, whose dosage was 10mg per day.The course of treatments in both groups were 4 weeks.Outcomes:The RQLQ was evaluated at the time that before the treatments,at the end of the treatments,3 months and 6 months after the end of the treatments. And also, the scores of seven aspects in RQLQ including activities, symptoms not belonging to eyes and nose, sleeping, nasal symptoms, practical problems, ocular symptoms and emotions were calculated before the treatments,at the end of the treatments,3 months and 6 months after the end of the treatments.Results:1.50 patients who met the criteria were included and 46 finished the trial with 4 cases dropping.22 patients completed the acupuncture therapy and 3 fell off in treatment group. While in the controlled group,24 patients finish the research and only 1 fell off.2.Main evaluation index:RQLQ scores and the scores of seven aspects in RQLQ including activities, symptoms not belonging to eyes and nose, sleeping, nasal symptoms, practical problems, ocular symptoms and emotionsAt 4 weeks of the treatments,RQLQ scores of acupunture group and Loratadine group were much lower than the scores at the beginning(P<0.01),but there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).3 months after the end of the treatments,RQLQ score of acupuncture group kept going down and RQLQ scores of Loratadine group was the same as 4 weeks of the treatment. The score of both groups had significant difference compared with that before the treatments(P<0.01)and there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.01).6 months after the end of the treatments, the score of acupuncture group was a little bit higher than that at 3 months after the treatment and the score of Loratadine group was the same as 3 months after the treatment. The score of both groups had significant difference compared with that before the treatments(P<0.01),but there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).At 4 weeks of the treatments, the scores of seven aspects in RQLQ significantly decreased than that before the treatments(P<0.01).The score on ocular symptoms in aucupunture group had significant difference compared with that in Loratadine group(P<0.05),but there were no significant difference between the two groups in other six aspects(P>0.05).3 months after the treatments, the scores of seven aspects in RQLQ significantly decreased than that before the treatment(P<0.01).The scores on sleeping and practical problems had no difference between the two group(P>0.05).The scores on the other five aspects in acupuncture group were significantly different compared with controlled group(P<0.05).6 months after the treatments, the scores of seven aspects in RQLQ in acupuncture group was significantly decreased(P<0.01).The sleeping score in Loratadine group had no statistical difference compared with that before the treatment(P>0.05).The score on other aspects were significantly decreased than that before the treatment in controlled group(P<0.01).Comparing seven aspects between the two groups, there were difference on activities, nasal symptoms and symptoms not belonging to eyes and nose(P<0.05)and there were no difference on sleeping, practical problems, nasal symptoms and emotions(P>0.05).Conclusion:The 'increasing yang' therapy by acupuncture and moxibustion could improve the living quality of patients who had allergic rhinitis in the short term, which had the equal effectiveness with Loratadine. The long term effect of the 'increasing yang' therapy was also accurate, which could last six months. This therapy had a better effect than Loratadine in changing the quality of life during the first 3 months after the treatments. The 'increasing yang' therapy could relieved the ocular symptoms immediately and was better than Loratadine.3 months after the treatments, acupuncture therapy had a better effect on reducing the limitation on activities, nasal symptoms, ocular symptoms, symptoms not belonging to eyes and nose and emotions.3-6 months after the treatments, acupuncture therapy was better in reducing the influnce of allergic rhinitis on activities, ocular symptoms and symptoms not belonging to eyes and nose. The 'increasing yang' therapy was a safety methods for allergic rhinitis and had no side effects.
