recorded in "Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic",which is regarded as the middling.The tropism taste of Ganjiang:spicy and warm or hot.In spleen,stomach,kidney,heart,lungs meridian.Ganjiang can warm the middle jiao to decrease the coldness,restore Yangqi and smooth the vascular to relieve the pain,warming the lung to eliminate the water,drying dampness and resolving phlegm,functioning as healing the stomachache and vomiting,diarrhea,coughing because of cold fluid,wind-cold-dampness blockage bi syndrome and bleeding syndrome.Modern pharmacologic research proved that Ganjiang works in the central nervous system,the circulatory system and the digestive system,and has the effect of lowering the blood lipids level,anticoagulation,being antioxidant,and inhibiting many microorganisms.ObjectiveGanjiang is used in clinic commonly.Both in "Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases"and "Synopsis of Golden Chamber",using Ganjiang to make compatibility is widely distributed.The essay aims at tiding and analyzing all the formulas and provisions with Ganjiang to find out the law of application about the function,common compatibility,usage and dosage and the use of the whole prescription of Ganjiang in order to provide the guidance and assistance for the accurate application of Ganjiang.MethodsThe research methods are:first,the literature research methods,combining with the descendents annotation and the knowledge I have learned to sort and analyze all prescriptions and provisions containing Ganjiang both in "Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases" and"Synopsis of Golden Chamber";second,basic stastistical methods,applying charts to make the dosage,using frequency and ratios of Ganjing analyzed and described.ResultsThe results are divided into five parts:1.The function of Ganjing.According to all the formulas with Ganjiang in these two books,except the last three chapters of "Synopsis of Golden Chamber",it is found that there are 46 formulas,including 35 decoctions,7 pills and 4 powders,containing 51 different usages of Ganjiang,and involving 94 provisions.There are four main functions of Ganjiang in all the formulas:warming the middle jiao to decrease the coldness,warming the kidney to restoring Yang,warming the lung to eliminate the water,arming the heart to relieve the pain.2.The composition principle of Ganjiang.The 46 decoctions with Ganjiang uses 76 kinds of herbs,including 9 kinds of herbs which are used ten times and more than ten times:Gancao,28 times,Renshen 19 times,Banxia 15 times,Fuzi(both unprocessed and processed)13 times,Guizhi 13 times,Huangqin 11 times,Fuling 11 times,Xixin 10 times,Wuweizi 10 times.Besides,the major quantity ratios between Ganjiang and Gancao,Renshen,Banxia,Guizhi,Huangqin,Xixin is 1:1,Fuling is 1:1 or 3:4,Wuweizi is 6:5,while the quantity ratios between Ganjing and Fuzi depends on the state of the disease.Furthermore,the compatibility of Ganjing with two or three herbs shows great clinical significance.3.The dosage of Ganjing.The dose mostly used of Ganjiang is three liang.The maximum doze is ten liang in Wumei pill,while in the decoctions the maximum doze is four liang in five formulas which are Dajianzhong decoction,Ganjianglingzhu decoction,Fengyin decoction,the special usage of Tongmaisini and Tongmaisini with Zhudanzhi decoction.The minimum dose is six zhu in Mahuangshengma decoction.The functions of three liang Ganjing varies in greatest degree,and when it is used of one point five liang,its function must be warming the kidney to restore Yang.When it comes to the proportion of Ganjiang in a whole decoction,it is ranges from 1.7 percent to 66.28 percent,which shows concentration from 1.7 percent to 20 percent.4.The applied law of the formulas with Ganjing.The indications of Ganjiang decoctions can be divided into ten sorts:limbs and neck and trunk and head facial symptoms 19 times,cold and heat syndrome 17 times,vomiting and diarrhea 13 times,chest and abdomen symptoms 12 times,including stomach bloating and abdominal pain as the main symptoms,cough 10 times,the emotional problems 10 times,appetite and excretion problems 7 times,sweating 5 times,the heart problems 4 times,bleeding syndrome 3 times.To increase or decrease the quantity of Ganjiang depends on the of "Synopsis of Golden Chamber",which indicates that Zhongjing attaches great importance to the Yangqi and do the primary research to the dietary taboos.ConclusionThere is the certain regularity in the function,compatibility,dosage and prescription for the application of Ganjing by Zhang Zhongjing.The strict principles and flexibility of the usage of Ganjiang are the basis of its clinical efficacy,containing rich academic ideas of Zhang Zhongjing.
