The paper is divided into three parts to carry on the research of Zhongjing-related documents in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies. The review of literature and clinical application researches on Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies and A supplement to Invaluable Formulas in recent years; Emendation of aberrant copy of Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease; The application of classical prescription and its series in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies.About the review:This article mainly aims to the literature documents of the domestic research on the works of Sun Simiao in recent years, especially since 2004. We can summarize and analysis them in two aspects:literature and several clinical subjects (mainly in internal medicine, gynecology and pediatrics). In this way, we can have a holistic understanding of contemporary research and provide a reference for the further research.About the emendation:Zhongjing-related documents which are included in Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease and Synopsis of the Golden Chamber nowadays are firstly collected from Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies. And they are arranged according to the order of Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies. Then the original text and emending text are confirmed. They are emended word by word. Finally, summary is written. According to statistics, conclusion is worked out below:There are 80 clauses of Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies, accounting for about twenty percent of the total; There are 38 prescriptions of Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies, accounting for one third of the total. Both of them are mainly arranged in the 9th and the 10th volume of Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies which is especially set for cold-induced diseases. There are 205 clauses of Synops is of the Golden Chamber in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies, accounting for more than half of the total; There are 104 prescriptions of Synopsis of the Golden Chamber in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies, accounting for more than half of the total. Both of them are distributed dispersedly, mainly in the 11th to 20th volume of Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies. If we take both into consideration, there are 114 prescriptions in Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease while 205 in Synopsis of the Golden Chamber. Removing 62 duplicate prescriptions, there are 257 prescriptions left. There are 142 prescriptions of Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease and Synopsis of the Golden Chamber in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies in all. Removing 8 duplicate prescriptions, there are 134 prescriptions left, accounting for about fifty-two percent of the total. Every classical prescriptions are not independent, but can be classified, and each class has its representative. Although fifty-two percent is not very high, the 134 classical prescriptions almost cover every kinds of representative prescriptions. We can come to conclusion that Sun Simiao may not know the details of Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease, but the framework of the whole book and the basic idea is clear in his mind. The purpose of emendation is more to prove that the prescriptions Sun used is exactly the classical prescription by Zhang Zhongjing than to textual criticism, in order to make a logical guarantee for the latter research.About the clinical application:The thinking of Classified Formulas from the Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease written by Xu Lingtai, a famous doctor in Qing Dynasty, is learned to divide the classical prescriptions in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies into 7 sections. There are "Gui Zhi Tang decoction and its series", "Ma Huang Tang decoction and its series ", "Cheng Qi Tang decoction and its series", "Bai Hu Tang decoction and its series", "Zhi Zi Tang decoction and its series", "Xie Xin Tang decoction and its series", "Chai Hu Tang decoction and its series". The classification method is not the same as Xu Lingtai’s, so every concrete name of classical prescriptions would be displayed before every section is discussed. The representative prescriptions of these classified formulas are all contained in 134 prescriptions summarized above, which means Sun’s experienced usage of classical prescriptions principally benefits from Zhang Zhongjing’s works. In the appendix will list a table of changes of classical prescriptions in Invaluable Formulas for Emergencies. In brief, from the emendation of aberrant copy of Treatise on Cold-Induced Disease to the research on the changes of classical prescriptions in Invaluably Formulas for Emergencies, the purpose of my work is to inherit previous experience, develop Zhang Zhongjing’s academic thought, broaden the scope of the usage of classical prescriptions and eventually achieve the goal of using classical prescription more efficiently in the clinical practice.
