| With the prosperity of China’s national power, making Chinese culture known in the world has become the main theme of this era. China not only needs to understand the world, but also need to make herself known by the world. The translator chose to translate the book Confucius,the Analects and Western Education, written by Brazil educator Frank M. Flanagan. It mainly describes how the West looks at Confucius, The Analects and Chinese traditional culture,providing us with a foreign perspective which is complementary with China perspective. This is very important for us to understand the situation of the spread of Chinese culture in Western countries.As for the original text is written in English, the specific Chinese proper nouns and social customs, etc. are presented in their English forms when the author talks about Chinese traditional culture. Thus, in the process of English-Chinese translation, the translator needs to restore these English cultural images to its original Chinese form, the process of which is called back translation. This report focus on the study of back translation, and explore the back translation strategies through the analysis of culture-based words and quoted sentences.The main content of the report is divided into five chapters: Chapter One is the description of task, which includes the selection of source text, the characteristics of source text, the significance of this report; Chapter Two is translation process, which includes preparation before translation, process of translation and the proofreading after the translation; Chapter Three is the case study, which mainly includes the definition of back translation, and a detailed analysis of cultural-based words and quoted classical speeches; Chapter Four is the strategies of back translation; Chapter Five is the summary. |
