This translation report, based on the English to Chinese translation of Second Wind(extracts), analyzes how to translate the English metaphor into Chinese one in a correct and suitable way, according to discussion of the conceptual metaphor theory presented by George Lakoff and Mark Johnsen.Second Wind narrates stories about American “baby boom” generation. Its author describes their lives in the present, and encourages them to be positive to their lives. Its arguments not only guide a right rode for different generations, but also enlighten those people whose lives are out of balance. A purpose of this translation report is to spread the positive life attitude through the translation, and lead people to live a more meaningful life. This translation report includes five parts: the translation project introduction; the translation process; the conceptual metaphor theory and its inspiration to translation; the analysis of translation examples and translation conclusions. This report focuses on finding out the proper methods to translate metaphors. According to the definitions and categories of the conceptual metaphor theory, this report summarizes three methods to translate metaphor by analyzing examples in Second Wind(extracts), by which the author attempts to translate the English metaphor appropriately in order that Chinese reader can understand it well.
