Investigation And Research On The Murals Of The Authentic Temple Of Yongan Temple In Wuyuan County

In 2012,I went to Datong Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple after reconstruction to paint murals with teachers and students in Mural Painting Department,Central Academy of Fine Arts.During this period,we inspected serval temple murals within the territory of Shanxi Province,including Yongan Temple in Hunyuan County.At that time,I was shocked at Yongan Temple murals which can be preserved so completely and the mural colors remain so gorgeous after hundreds of years.Under the leadership of Datong Cultural Relics Bureau,I took a lot of photos for future research.This trip enabled me to gain a preliminary understanding of Yongan Temple and accumulate rich data to write this essay later.Yongan Temple is located in Hunyuan County,Shanxi Province.It is the largest building group within the territory of Datong.The ChuanfaZhengzong Hall in the temple has well-preserved and extraordinarily exquisite murals.In 2010,it was rated as a national key cultural relic protection unit.After textual research,the mural theme belongs to Shui-Lu painting and has a history of 697 years.The total area of entire mural is 170 square meters and is a painting with precise delineation and enriched colors with a large size and numerous figures in China.It contains a total of 822 figures.The mural consists of two parts.One is an image of Trailokya-vijaya-raja and the other is Man and Immortals March at Shui-Lu Rites.The strokes are vigorous and smooth.The colors and luster is gorgeous and coordinated.All figures are painted meticulously,with vivid facial expressions.They are very precious ancient masterpiece paintings.The murals remain colorful and gorgeous despite a long time.They are splendid,magnificent and very impressive.This paper introduces ChuanfaZhengzong Hall in Yongan Temple,Hunyuan County from four parts.Part One introduces the research objective and significance of this paper.Part Two introduces the general situation in Hunyuan County and Yongan Temple,as well as an overview of Yongan Temple murals.Part Three introduces an interpretation of mural contents in ChuanfaZhengzong Hall in Yongan Temple and what Shui-Lu Rites,Shui-Lu paintings and Shui-Lu murals are.This paper also sets forth Trailokya-vijaya-raja in detail and interprets Man and Immortals March at Shui-Lu Rites.Part Four analyzes mural pictures from their composition,lines and colors.Although the painting technique is inferior to some murals in Yongle Palace,they reflect the painting level and aesthetic tendency of folk painters at that time just fine.Yongan Temple Shui-Lu murals have great artistic value,historical,cultural,religious cultural and tourist cultural value.Shui-Lu paintings in Yongan Temple has multifarious contents,gives people abundant data to recognize religious deities and helps us under the painting process of murals and their intrinsic value in the religious art in China more comprehensively.So in the face of such exquisite murals and rich traditional culture in our country,we are obliged to let more people know about them and enjoy them,protect our traditional murals better consciously and enable our future generations to see it,as well.
