The paper has the detailed interpretation of the compilation process of the suite dance, “Love Ballads in Shanxi”, reflects the composition of the dance by “selecting” materials from folk songs and “adopting” the ideas into it, and has the consideration and cognition of “songs” and “dances”, as well as the relationship between music and dance.Firstly, the paper introduces the creation background of “Love Ballads in Shanxi” and folk customs in Shanxi, including the time-honored culture, distinctive regional cultures, and its humanistic atmosphere which highlights the sincerity, introvert and gracefulness. Besides, the Buddhist culture and Shanxi Merchant Culture are well-known over the world. Furthermore, the folk songs in Shanxi are characterized with the melodious tunes and sincere feelings, which are thought to be the manifestation of working people's wishes, their daily necessities, emotional world and customs. These elements can be the enormous resources for the dancing materials and the prerequisite for the dancing creation; therefore, they lay a real, profound and fully humanistic path for the dancing design. It is considered in the paper that the dancing creation can be inseparable from the long-standing guidance of history, the understanding of the unique dancing styles, and the folklore custom stories in ShanxiSecondly, in the summary of the composition of the suite dance, the paper illustrates the creation process by “selecting” materials from folk songs and “adopting” these songs into the composition. In the aspect of the creation, the paper chooses the mostly representative ballads and stories in the folklore custom culture in China so as to lay the foundation for the dancing creation and to put them on the stage in the form of the suite dance.Based on the composition, the paper also considers the relation between “selection” and “adoption” in the dance creation and explores the stage composition with the “regression” to the folk simplicity.
