Analysis On The Protection And Utilization Of The Gaochengdun Site

Gaochengdun relic is located in Huangtu town, Jiangyin of Jiangsu province. It is a burial mound of Liangzhu Culture period, which is about 4400 to 4800 years ago. This relic was excavated from November 1999 to June 2000, and the excavation was ranked as one of China’s Top Ten major archaeological discoveries in 1999 by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. It has an important value for us to study the distribution range of Liangzhu Culture, region division, burial mound and functions of Jade Cong. In 2002, the Liangzhu Culture Museum was built on the relic to protect it. After field investigation, it is found that the Liangzhu Culture Museum is in bad repair and the building leakages, miscellaneous things pile in the restored tombs, few people come to visit. This paper analyzes the reasons for these problems from three aspects of government, resident and the relic, proposes suggestions to protect and utilize the Gaochengdun relic according the reasons. From the perspective of existing conditions, this paper expounds the connotation, function and system construction of archaeological park on macro level, puts forward the concept of archaeological park at the county level, and demonstrates the feasibility to build the Gaochengdun relic into an archaeological park of county level. During the demonstration process, it draws lessons from successful experience of Hongshan national archaeological park and Zhenpiyan national archaeological park. On micro-level, this paper puts forward improvement suggestions on the Liangzhu Culture Museum, for which the main purpose is to attract more visitors to the museum, give full play to the social educational function of the museum, so as to better protect and utilize the Gaochengdun relic.
