Soviet writer Boris Pasternak on behalf of its novel Doctor Zhivago won the 1958 Nobel Prize for Literature. Since its award-winning, for Pasternak studies mostly around his early poetry and masterpiece Doctor Zhivago. As is known to all, he spent about 10 years to create the work. However, little-known is, a willingness to fiction has come to Pasternak since the early 1900s, though he set foot on the literary world as a poet.The writing of Doctor Zhivago went through a long process of preparation, including the writer's own growth, the breakthrough on the writing style, reflections on life, and finally formed the "poetic prose" with Pa's label. Throughout the early prose works of Pasternak, only Patrick's Notes-written in 1936, can be called the preparation of Doctor Zhivago.This paper is based on the the writing background of Patrick's Notes, the chapter structure and the relationships set up, rhetoric and imagery expression, etc., using text reading and comparative analysis methods to conduct feasibility studies.First, based on the overview of writer's prose, demonstrate Patrick's Notes plays a nexus role in Pasternak's writing career.Secondly, explore the clues to call Patrick's Notes the preparation of Doctor Zhivago. On the basis of the textual content of Patrick's Notes, expand discussed in terms of characters, narrative techniques, discourse structure.Finally, analyse the Doctor Zhivago's inheritance and development in the narrative content and artistic practices to Patrick's Notes. Based on Patrick's Notes text analysis clues, combine the development process of Pasternak's personal creation, compare and analyse association of Patrick's Notes and Doctor Zhivago in the narrative of the content and artistic expression.Though Patrick's Notes is not Pasternak's main representative, but its special status in author's writing career, "Pap characteristics" in text content and form, offer new possibilities in studying Doctor Zhivago and even the writer himself.
