Yanmenguan Poetry Research

Yanmen Pass is a pass which has a long history and majestic topographical features. The pass played an important role in ancient Chinese political and cultural history. Based on the pass, Chinese history left us large quantities illustrious personage's causes and absolutely exquisite poetry, ci and prose. Combined culture with geography and history, we can set up distinctive Yanmen culture, pass culture and frontier fortress culture. There are more than two hundred poetry about Yanmen Pass, which mostly show the frontier regional customs, the historical events and emotions of Yanmen Pass and the surrounding areas. It plays an important role in the history of the frontier fortress poetry.This paper has three major parts, introduction, main text and the conclusion.The introduction aims at explaining the meaning of the topic, including the definition and the current study results of "Yanmen Pass poetry", as well as the study perspective of this paper. The main text firstly sorts out the development the development of Yanmen County, Yanmen Pass and the Yanmen Pass poetry, then makes a deep study on the main ideas, artistic characteristics and the Yanmen culture. Yanmen Pass poetry has rich connotations, which presents great events happened in Yanmen Pass in Chinese history in many aspects, and records a long history of collision and blend of Central Plains farming culture and the nomadic culture. Yanmen Pass poetry describes the historical pictures of Yanmen, and expresses strong national feelings, patriotic contributions, as well as homesickness and Feminine Querimony. Yanmen Pass poetry has two artistic characteristics, the use of imagery and Aesthetic Qualities. Especially the cross use of multiple images not only adds a strong regional characteristics, but also gives aesthetic tragic characteristics for Yanmen Pass poetry. Last but not least, the construction of Yanmen culture is also an important part of this paper. The theories of literary geography and archaeology are used to construct the connotation of "Yanmen culture" in the analysis of multidimensional culture. "Yanmen culture" is the general name of the cultural area in northern of Shanxi Province, which centered in Yanmen area. It refers to the the northern half of Shanxi province, which set the Jinzhong basin as the southern edge in the geographical space range, covering the area of Datong, Shuozhou and Xinzhou. in the cultural connotation, In additon, it also includes the military political connotation, the national integration connotation, and the resulting multicultural style of "one point, two elements" in economic way of life style, national character. In the end, based on the summary of the paper, the cultural researching value and the rationality in perspective of regional culture research are analyzed, which indicates the difficulty of the research of Yanmen Pass poetry.
