This is the main research contents of Ming Dynasty three areas of regionalization of formation and evolution of defense. In general it can be divided into east and west highland two river geographical unit. Because of their special strategic positions for Taiyuan northern dynasties military barrier, respectively in the military stronghold, a way of controlling the area south. In the early Ming Dynasty inherited this military geographical pattern in the eastern and western plateau area respectively valley for Zhenwuwei, forming the western and eastern defensive areas. With the border crisis during the Chenghua-period in early Ming Dynasty, and in the central Ningwu Pass was set up, gradually formed the central defensive areas.
