Chinese movies in the 1980s and 1990s, along with the globalization, marketization, industrialization of the tide, move towards the international film circle. The sixth generation of directors and their movies have portrayed the image of rich and diverse urban marginal groups. It not only contains a variety of social and cultural themes but also reflects the contemporary China circumstance, urban and social development trends. With 1990 to 2005 as the time background, the paper focuses on the urban fringe groups in the 6th generation directors' film works, deeply analyze image construction and communication logic of these films under the mainstream culture, consumer culture and mass culture.The main part of the paper has four chapters, there are six parts altogether including introduction and conclusion. The introduction makes the literature review on the edge groups, the 6th generation directors and their works. It also explains the significance, purposes, methods of this paper.The first chapter mainly introduces the sixth generation of directors and their film works. The 6th generation of directors and their film works focuses on the city of rapid change and the edge groups. These movies present the bottom of the society of rich social and cultural significance on the screen, and a real China has been introduced to the international world.The second chapter is to analyze how these movies bring a wealth of texts of edge culture presented through a wide range of marginal groups. Marginalized groups determines the specific choices of urban space in the films, which show the edge of big cities edge or the large numbers of counties.These film works reflect the special social culture under the peculiar environment to understand cities and reality of China.The third chapter is to analyze the context of the image of marginal groups. This chapter discusses how the 6th generation of directors' attention for marginalized groups, edge cultural relates with historical context, social background and directors' encounter.The fourth chapter is to discuss communication methods of film works of the sixth generation. The communication means of film works is the communication path from the domestic to the foreign, the commercial communication of the art movies and the intercultural communication of Chinese native movies. The essay at last explains the significance of the production, the dissemination, the consumption of these marginal movies to the new areas of film writing, the folk memory of marginal groups, the historical construction.
