The thesis make a study on the positive and negative forms of VP Zhiqian (VP??)structure of the modern Chinese. Based on the statistics and analysis of corpus data, the thesis is to explore the mutual limitations and restrictions between VP Zhiqian (VP??)and each composition of the structure. The thesis emphasizes on the similarities and differences between the positive form VP Zhiqian (VP??)and the negative form Meiyou VP Zhiqian(??VP??).First, the thesis starts from the compositions of VP Zhiqian (VP??)and analyzes the functions of the negative mark, time mark and verbal part. It also analyzes the limitation and selectivity of the structure to each composition. The verb and verb phrases with more verbal appeared more often in the VP Zhiqian (VP??)structure. As to the negative mark, only the negative adverbs that negate the facts can act as the negative mark of the structure.The time mark is functioned as the stipulating time domain of discourse.Then, it analyzes the user's application of the positive and negative forms of VP Zhiqian (VP??)structure from the three aspects:the verbal parts, the main clause and matching compositions of the structure. Only the verbs and verbal phrases with meaning of the result can't appear in the positive form of VP Zhiqian (VP??).The negative form of VP structure not only expresses time, but aslo emphasizes on the prospective of VP verbal event's influence on the following subjective.Next, it explores the causes of the asymmetry between the positive form and the negative form of VP Zhiqian (VP??)structure from the perspectives of pragmatics and cognition. The personality and the mode of thinking of Han nationality has great influence on people's choice of this structure.Finally, By choosing some corpus in HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus, it analyzes the biased-errors of the foreign students. The biased-errors are due to foreign students not knowing the pragmatic effects of the negative form. Therefore, when teaching Chinese as a foreign language, teachers should combine the context and introduce more about personalities and the mode of the thinking of Han nationality.
