With the rapid rise and development of network, which is a new medium of language, there is an obvious tendency that the new are dramatically increasing. Among them, the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions not only make up a large proportion of all of the network words and expressions, but also as an important part can never be ignored for their unique structures, semantic characteristic and the expression effect, which provide an object of considerable significance for our language research. This thesis uses many methods like semantic analysis, discourse-functions analysis, generative mechanisms analysis and sociolinguistic survey, combining typical analysis and overall investigation, on the basis of the statistical datas on the linguistic corpora and the results of a relatively extensive social survey, to study the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions as deeply and thoroughly as I can. This thesis concludes five main parts, discussing the process and the result of this study from five angles:definition of concept and origin, structure and word-creation ways, semantic categories, acceptability and discourse functions.Firstly, on the basis of the conclusion and arrangement of the relative studies so far, this thesis analyses and describes the definition and the sources of the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions, to determine the objects of study as the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions emerging from 2008 to 2014, which is mainly used in network communication platform (or initially mainly used in network communication platform), and to divide them into two groups by their origins:social emerging phenomena or current events, and special expressional effects.Secondly, in combination with analysis of the structure of the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions, this thesis studies the word-creation ways and characteristics of these words and expressions phonetically, semantically and grammatically; and use the theories of memetics and cognitive linguistics, to analyses the formation mechanism of these words and expressions.Thirdly, from the perspective of semantics, this thesis divides the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions into four kinds as referring to human, things, activities and characters. And each kind can be divided into several kinds further by their characters semantically or in structure, and their characters semantically will be analyzed and describedFourthly, by making an investigation widely about the acceptability of the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions in paper with adequate materials, and arranging, describing and analyzing the results carefully and thoroughly, explains the acceptability of the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions reasonably from the views of structure, semantics and pragmatics, to provide a reference for the standardization of the Internet words and expressions and the prediction of the future of the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions. At the same time, n combination with the result of the investigation about the acceptability, this thesis uses the theory of null symbol to analyze the phenomenon of the conversion between underlying and apparent words and expressions. This chapter is not only the emphasis and difficulty, but also the main innovation of this thesis. Finally, this thesis analyses the discourse function of the three-syllable new-emerging network words and expressions from the perspective of pragmatics, and explain it as cognitive function and ridiculing function, and analyses the unique discourse function of the swear words and expressions in them in particular.
