| As a director who learns from both of Chinese and western culture, Ang Lee not only has his influence in the era of film industry, but also become a topic which is studied by the academic. In fact, his life experiences and his thought of different cultures are reflections of Chinese culture’s situation nowadays.In “Father Knows Best” Trilogy, Ang Lee’s cultural perspectives have their own transmutation and transcendence phenomenon. Initially, he stressed more on the opposition between Chinese and western cultures, the form and content of culture have no distinction, cultural controls individuals in their cultural behaviors. Then, he reconsidered these cultural views, and gradually moved towards their opposites, and eventually surpassed his former cultural perspectives.Ang Lee’s adaptation towards its own cultural perspectives in his “Father Knows Best” Trilogy is caused by impacts such as his life experience and globalization. By studying his transmutation and transcendence of his cultural perspectives, this dissertation discusses the cultural choices of ethnic Chinese under the current cultural environment. The communication of different cultures will surely make the world’s culture better. |
