Shen Kuomin's Consciousness And Its Practical Research

For a long time,due to Shen Kuo's outstanding achievements in the field of science and technology in ancient China, the academic circles made a comprehensive research to his science-technology achievements and science-technology thought.But on the other hand,as a bureaucrat who was engaged in politics nearly three decades in Northern Song Dynasty politics,Shen Kuo also made remarkable achievements in the humanities.His many insights about politics, economy, military were all deeply rooted in his Coushu and poems.Even in his medical prescriptions,we can also perceive his deep humanistic thought.The prominent point of Shen Kuo's humanistic thought lied in his People-oriented Consciousness.Due to the lack of relevant historical materials,the academic circles have not yet carried out systematic research on Shen Kuo's People-oriented Consciousness.This thesis attempts to expand the academic circles' long term traditional research ideas focusing on scientific thought and scientific activities of Shen Kuo,and take Shen Kuo as a distinct case, to study such a scientist's People-oriented Consciousness emphatically from the perspective of his political activities, scientific research and life experiences.On the basis of combing related historical literature and learning from predecessors' research results,this thesis summarizes and refines the contents and practice of Shen Kuo'People-oriented Consciousness from three major aspects of “pacifying people”,”benefiting people”and”valuing people”.The”pacifying people”of Shen Kuo mainly embodied in three levels that are “valuing agriculture and caring commerce”,”cherishing people's strength”and”establishing school and educating people”.This thesis demonstrates and analyses to this.About the aspects of “benefiting people”,this thesis analyzes and elaborates to this emphatically from the activities related to medicine and people's livelihood which Shen Kuo was engaged in. While“valuing people”embodys Shen Kuo's People-oriented Consciousness that are “view of civilian talent” and “paying attention to social values of people”.Pragmatic,but outstanding thinking quality made Shen Kuo elevated People-oriented Consciousness to a new level on the basis of inheriting traditional Confucian People-oriented Thought. At the same time,Shen Kuo's long-term research activities in the field of natural science and technology,also made his People-oriented Consciousness marked a deep scientific brand.
