A Comprehensive Review Of Feng Deying's Novel Creation

Feng Deying,a rather influential novelist in contemporary China,inspired by The Story of the Tinplate Bucket,wrote a novel named Bitter Cauliflower,which took his hometown as the background and the heroes he familiar with as the characters,winning him a swift fame.Later on,he wrote winter jasmine and Wild Chrysanthemum,which along with the first one were being called "three flowers",having extensive and profound influences.After 1980s,Feng has produced Bloody Land,The Sunny Sky and Feng Deying Novel Collection and so on.With impressive strong local flavor,vivid standpoint and touching characters,Feng's novels embody his heroic mood and cultural feelings to take root in Shandong provinceas an army writer.However,the reviews and studies on Feng Deying's novels in contemporary Chinese literature research are not comprehensive.It is not corresponding to Feng's accomplishments of writing and his broad influences.Therefore,taking some of Feng's novels as example,this paper explores the achievements and value of Feng's novels,analyzes and interprets the influence factors,emotion expressions,character images and artistic characteristics of novel writing.This paper could be divided into four parts:The first part is about the major factors affecting Feng Deying's novel creation.This paper considers that the major factors can be concluded as the influence of childhood,the experience as a solider,and the influence of Shandong culture.The aboving three aspects gave him a rich source of writing,reflecting his writing principles of "taking people as the foundation" and "speaking for the people".In the second part,this paper mainly illustrates four kinds of feelings reflected in Feng Deying's novels:the feeling to hometown(Feng Deying transformed his homesick feeling into the descriptions of hometown scenery and characters,showing his deep nostalgia);the feeling to people(with the influence of Shandong culture,Feng always represented for people,spoke for people.His affinity to people has run through his creation of novels);the feeling to the Communist Party of China(his admiration to heroes who fight and sacrifice for evolutionary cause);the feeling to history(Feng uncovered historical backgrounds of important historical phrases and events,and depicted people's life in that circumstance,embodying his understanding of history).The third part illustrates the typical characters in Feng Deying's novels.The Lady Feng in Bitter Cauliflower,leading character of this novel,is an immortal character in literature history,representing thousands of heroic mother in evolutionary cause.Jiang Shuishan in winter jasmine,is a very upright man,abhorring evil as a deadly foe.This paper analyzes Jiang Shuishan's zest towards evolutionary cause,and points out deficiencies when molding Jiang Shuisheng's image.This part also includes some characters in Wild Chrysanthemum.Take Yu Zhenhai as an example,he is a man with distinct characteristic,and has positive function in the novel.It was through him that the poor knew more about the communist party of China.He received the education of party and became a qualified solider from a stonecutter,bringing positive effects to people around him.Yang Richang,the main character of Bloody Land and Sunny Sky,holds respect and love to the Communist party of China still although the policies at that time wasn't right,believing everything would get back on track one day.The fourth part is the analysis of the artistic characteristics of Feng Deying's novels.First is the characteristic of taking reality as writing material.When choosing topic,he inclines to the people from reality;he stresses the objective of the subjects and objects in the novels;and he also pay great attention on the authenticity of the descriptions.Second is the plot characteristics,in which states the relationship between rich story and plot development,the promoting effects of personality shaping to plot development.The last one is the language characteristics:Dialect is prominent in Feng's novels;color words show subjective emotion;revolution ballads powerfully state the theme.
