A Study Of The Relationship Between The Han And The Han Nationalities

Han Dynasty is the period of many social systems and these systems have very deep influence to future generations. The experiences that how to handle ethnic relations left by Han Dynasty are valuable references for later dynasties, such as the Vassal State System, the policy of stationing the immigration to open up the wasteland, the policy of frontier trade and the policy of Peace-making Marriage. Qiang originates from Hehuang Region of Qinghai Province, which has a long history in China. It can be found as early as Xia and Shang Dynasties and the relationship between Qiang and Center China is much closed. In West and East Han Dynasty, the Qiang people start off in inland frequently, so both Qiang and Han people are all living in the Northwest Border of Han Dynasty. This situation has encouraged ethnic integration, but in the meantime, it also made the relationship between Qiang and H an more complicated. In West Han Dynasty, Qiang people which was controlled by Xiongnu has been the border threat to West Han Dynasty. In order to weaken the power of Xiongnu, West Han Dynasty pursues the pacification policy towards Qiang people. So the peace and stable situation have been kept for long in West Han Dynasty. In the period of East Han Dynasty, the threat of Xiongnu was relieved and the powerful Qiang has been the new border threat to East Han Dynasty. However, facing the new situation, the government of East Han Dynasty is so short of comprehension and handling skills that Qiang and Han have a longtime confrontation. The confrontation has shaken the foundation of the country, and also bright disasters to all the people. So it's necessary for us to study and analyze the relations between Qiang and Han Dynasty.The article includes 3 parts. In the first chapter, through the investigating of Qiang in Pre-Qin period, we can know the birth land and the customs of Qiang people; also we can see the relations between Qiang and Center-China. In the second chapter, it mainly deals with the theme that what polities have been used by Han Dynasty in order to mange the ethnic relationships, then analyze and judge these polities.
