Exploring The Meaning Of Conversation In "Biography"

"Empresses in the Palace" is the most popular TV series among the public in recent years,which presents life among women in the imperial palace and has a high audience rating.The content and the method coming into being in this TV series are similar to the daily life in the modern society.The conversational implicature,which is the significant part of pragmatics is important for people to communicate with each other.With a long history of research on the conversational implicature,the main theoretical achievements are the classical Gricean theory of conversational implicature,Horn's Quantity principle and Relation principle and Levinson's Quantity,Informativeness principle,and Manner principle.The cooperative principle is the most momentous contribution of Gricean theory of conversational implicature.The cooperative principle is composed of four maxims: Quantity,Quality,Relation and Manner.So far,research on "Empresses in the Palace" is very rare.The thesis examines documentation and qualitative analysis and focuses on the classical Gricean theory of conversational implicature to construct the theoretical framework,which in a detailed way introduces the theoretical achievements of conversational implicature and characteristics in the TV series.Combining the theory with the cases,the thesis aims at putting forward the generation mechanism,analyzing the specific cases and finding out the reasons and methods of how the conversational implicature comes into being,which enriches the theory of the conversational implicature,helping people to understand the TV series and improve communication skills.
