A Pragmatic Study Of Indicators Based On The Interrogation Corpus Of Interrogation

Deixis has always been a hot topic for scholars.In the study of pragmatics,deixis plays an irreplaceable role.As an important part of pragmatics,deixis is regarded as the most direct reflection of the relationship between language and context.Police-suspect interview is the key to the trial.Police-suspect interview is a special kind of verbal communication,which belongs to a typical institutional discourse,whose language has the legal function and binding force.Interrogation,as a form of dialogue,has its unique characteristics in the use of deixis.The correct use and derivation of deixis can help the investigation of cases.At the same time,the analysis of the pragmatic function of deixis can broaden the research field of deixis.This paper is based on the Chinese police-suspect interview oral language corpus.We mainly focus on the pragmatic analysis of deixis.In this paper,we use contrastive analysis,quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to study the corpus.We mainly analyze three types of deixis in the interrogative discourse: personal deixis,time deixis and spatial deixis.The study found that: First,in the interrogative discourse,the investigators will ask the suspects give non-reference information after using deixis.Sometimes,the suspects will give more details consciously.Second,in interrogative discourse,investigators and suspects prefer using“that” to using “this”.Third,in the procedural questioning stage,investigators often use first person“we”or the institutional name "public security organs" to refer to their own.Fourth,the investigators use first person least,and the suspects use second person least.Fifth,in some cases the suspects will use nonverbal means to coordinate with the spatial deixis.Due to various psychological reasons,in the process of confessing the crime,the suspects often use vague time deixis The use of deixis in the interrogative discourse can reflect some pragmatic functions such as pragmatic vagueness,pragmatic empathy,pragmatic dissociation and identity construction.Investigators and suspects have different purposes,so the choice of deixis are different.The use and recognition of deixis can provide effective strategies for police-suspect interview.
