A Comparative Study Of The Interrogative Words In The Interrogation And Interrogation Transcripts

As a typical institutional discourse,police interrogation is an important measure in the judicial organization.In the process of interrogation,recording the police's inquiries and suspect's responses faithfully as the legal evidence is required.However,interrogation records are made on the spot and can not be supplemented or modified later.They are,therefore,different from the corresponding interrogation discourse.The present research is undertaken under a theoretical of framework Hyland's model of interaction.It aims to analyze the differences of stance markers used in interrogation discourse and interrogation records from the perspective of linguistics.Through the comparative analysis of data,the research finds out that similarities and differences.The purpose of the research is to provide more scientific and reasonable suggestions for the standardization of interrogation records in the future.By comparing and analyzing stance markers in Chinese police interrogation,the results show that there exist four types of stance markers in both parties' s words.But there are some differences in each type of stance markers between interrogation discourse and interrogation records.For the police,the first person singular "I" and the singular self referential noun "investigator" are omitted in self-mention.The frequencies of hedges have been decreased.The distribution of boosters are related to the cooperation with suspects.Attitude markers are omitted largely in the interrogation records.As for the suspects,the frequencies of self-mention,boosters and attitude markers didn't change obviously.The interrogations add some self-mentions.The increasing of hedges mainly depends on the quantity hedges and attitude markers are highlighted.In conclusion,we propose four advise,i.e.choosing the self-mention reasonably,deleting the hedges appropriately,highlighting the boosters emphatically and adding attitude markers truthfully.
