During the modern times,the western missionaries in China have translated a large number of western classical children literature at that time.For instance,there are some literature such as Jessica,s First Prayer,Home Sweet Home and so on.From these novels about city orphans translated by missionaries,readers can catch sight of the miserable living circumstances such as the material life of the poor and the torture of illness,lonely spirit and inner world,and lack of education.At the same time,people can see these city orphans are redeemed by which mode from the text such as the care about orphans from adults,helping orphans improve poor living conditions;the important influences about the lonely heart of orphans from the beautiful scenery of nature,making orphans feel happy;and the profound humanistic care from the religion and education.These novels about city orphans translated by missionaries have also produced significant impacts in the society at that time.They have indispensable functions to improve the material and spiritual living conditions of children,and the education conditions in the realistic society,and prompt the emergence of new views on children and education.So to speak,it is an important exploration to decide how to redeem city orphans in the society at that time,for missionaries who translated novels about city orphans in the modern times,which also has positive significance for us to solve the problems of urban orphans now.This thesis is mainly divided into four parts such as introduction,the body of the paper,conclusion and appendix.The introduction part mainly includes thinking about novels about city orphans and the history of children and children literature both at home and abroad research review of academic history.The body of the paper is divided into three chapters altogether.The first chapter mainly analyzes the reasons why the city orphans generated and describes tragic life experiences of the city orphans,including the sufferings of the material life of poverty and disease;the second principally introduces the city orphans,redemption,including about adults care of city orphans from our society,the important influences for city orphans lonely heart from village beautiful natural scenery and profound humanistic care from religious education;the third mainly expounds the positive effects of these novels about city orphans translated by missionaries in the society at that time,including the improvements of conditions of material and spiritual life of city orphans,the education conditions of city orphans and prompting the emergence of new views on children and education.The conclusion part further deepens and summaries the above three chapters.The author select the missionaries translations that relatively rare in themodern times in the thesis.And the author has a brief introduction to these missionaries translations involved in the appendix part to hope to further illustrate problems.The author hopes to research these novels about city orphans translated by missionaries to understand specific influences they produced in the society at that time.Meanwhile,the article can also dig their modern sense to make more people pay attention to novels about city orphans and their value translated by the western missionaries in China during the modern times.
