The study of the history of Manchuria will not only help deepen the insights of foreign scholars into the society and the culture of Manchuria,but serve as a strong booster for general knowledge base in Manchuria.Consequently,this bolsters the confidence and momentum of Chinese scholars who are working on the production of original knowledge related to Manchuria,as well as providing unfailing information and texts for researches and construction of Chinese study on Manchuria.This paper,with an attempt to translate the third chapter and fourth chapter of Manchuria: Cradle of Conflict written by famous American sinologist and scholar in Mongolia,Owen Lattimore,to some degree improves the intellectual exchange between Chinese scholars and foreign counterparts working on the study of Manchuria history.During translation,by employing structural objects of adaptability of Verschueren's adaption theory as theoretical guidance,the present thesis explores its application and function in the E-C translation of academic texts.Meanwhile,considering the differences between the Chinese and Western thinking modes and the contrast between the English and Chinese languages,the translator discusses and defines the traslation of culture-specific items in the source text and makes a detailed case analysis on problems arising in translation.Finally,the thesis project summarizes problems worth noticing and corresponding strategies in the translation of historical texts on adaption theory.The translator hopes that the deficiencies in the process of translation will be found out while registering translation harvest.
