| The cultural identity of a nation can be embodied in a variety of aspects,such as history,politics,and language.Comparing to other forms like text or picture,documentaries are more scientific and educational,thus makes it a more qualified carrier for the external publicity of a culture.This report is based on translating the first episode of the documentary “Masters in Forbidden City”,which was directed by Ye Jun and Xiao Han,and produced by Qingying Studio and Hangzhou Qianying Cutural and Creative Lmitid Company.In this report the author wants to discuss the methods of translating subtitles from three aspects: controlling the length of subtitiles,rearrange the sequence of subtitles and improving the logic between subtitles.As there are contents relating to relic storation contained in the translation material,the author will summarize the stratgies of translating the cultural contents and the terms relates to relics restoration as well,in wish of providing references of translating documentary subtitles for other translators. |
