A Preliminary Study Of The Relationship Between Creativity And Lie Behavior

Lie behavior has been found in the every facet of the life,such as commercial domain,sports competition,and school.With the development of the society,it is more and more popular for us to see the lie behavior which always happens.Unfortunately,we often need to face the negative effect of dishonesty.So the researches about lie behavior abound in theoretical and practical meaning.Creativity is a type of intelligent quality with which individual could produce a novel,special product that is potentially useful for the society or the individual.Most creativity researches always focus on the positive aspect of creativity that performs in the individual,organization and the society.However,little study explored the correlation between creativity and unethical behavior,such as,lie behavior.Moreover,there is no distinct boundary between goodness and wickedness.Creativity also has the dark side and also produces bad and negative product.Our study would primarily explore the relationship of creativity and lie.In order to examine this relationship,we intend to explore how the creative mindset or creative style influences lie behavior.There are two studies in our research.Study 1 intends to respectively explore the effect between creative mindset,creative style and lie behavior.Study 2 plans to examine how creativity and saliency of ethical standard influence lie behavior based on the results of Study 1.In both two studies,we use visual perception task to measure the extent of lie behavior,and adapt this task to meet the features of college students in China.Study 1 include Study 1a and Study 1b.In Study 1a,we aim at examining the relationship between creative mindset and lie behavior,and try to prime creative mindset using scrambled sentence test and Remote Association Task(RAT).Moreover,the focus of Study 1b is to explore the relation of creative style and lie behavior.Based with Study 1,Study 2 adds saliency of ethical standard to our research,and intends to investigate the role of saliency of ethical standard in the relationship between creative mindset and college students' lie behavior.Result indicated that,(1)Participants who are primed to think creatively are less likely to behave dishonestly than those in a control condition.(2)In terms of creative style,students who perform better in rule governance have less lie behavior.(3)Participants who pay more attention to own ethical standards perform more lie behavior.(4)The interaction effect between creative mindset and saliency of ethical standard is not marked.
