A Comparative Study Of Alphabetic Word Dictionaries

Since the Reform and Opening-up of China,lettered words have come into being.And four lettered-words Dictionaries respectively complied by Liu Yongquan(two dictionaries),Shen Mengying and Hou min have come out.Selecting the four lettered-words dictionaries as research material,the author has established a closed corpus to make an exhaustive comparative analysis on all the lettered-words included in the four dictionaries.Meanwhile,the author will make a descriptive and comparative analysis on the lettered-words from a syn-chronic and a diachronic viewpoint.The paper aims at finding out the strengths of the ministries of the four dictionaries and give some suggestions on the related problems which will be referable for the future dictionary complying.Except introduction and conclusion,The paper covers four parts.Introduction,which summaries the current research on lettered-words and lettered-word dictionaries.And also illustrates the research meaning,purposes,theory,and approaches as well as description on the incited dictionaries.Part one make a comparative research and analysis on the word amount and range of the dictionaries.And with quantitative statistics,the paper will present the quantity of Hou Ben is more than twice times of Liu Zengben and Shen Ben.electronic communications,which have accounted for the largest proportion in the dictionary,reflecting the characteristics of China entered the era of electronic information.Part two make a comparative research and analysis on the entry and morphologica of the dictionaries.After compared the Basis words with the combination words,To find that when dealing with the combination words,Hou Ben inused it as example of a Word form in the scenario section.According to the research on lettered-word morphologica,To analysed that the differences include of the letters in Chinese morpheme,the upper and lower notes,and letter symbols.The third part is a comparative study of the dictionaries in terms of interpretation and usage cases,By comparison,explores differences in dictionary definitions is the way of definations,etymology exhibit,the processing of polysemy and Homonymy,About polysemy,Liu Zengben and Hou Ben's approach is preferable.from use case amount,sources and types.Discoverd Shen use more "quotes",and full sentences,increases the dictionary of word,Hou Ben's character is fewer cases,and the phrase "Self-written case",although its light,affect the validity of dictionary users use.The fourth part is the dictionary features,problems,and suggestions.Combined with analysis and comparison of results of various dictionaries feature,problems,putforward relevant recommendations,including the control of the amount of words,forms of Chinese morphemes,the upper and lower notes,entry,interpretation,use cases and the preparation of a unified standard.The conclusion part,mainly putting forward the innovation of this article,summarizing the conclusion and shortcomings of this study,and making a prospect for the future research.
