Emotional connotation is one of the nine components Zhang Zhiyi、Zhang Qingyun raised,it is the subjective feeling、attitudes evaluation to basic meaning.Modern Chinese Dicrtionary marked the emotional connotation since the first edition.In this aticle,we analyzed the definition and the nature of the emotional connotation,and summarized the significance of the marking for emotional connotation in the Modern Chinese Dictionary.We inspected all the entries in the Modern Chinese Dictionary and made a table of entries with emotional connotation.We make an comprehensive dicription and analysis of the marking for the emotional connotation from the marking form、the amount and the category,and we also try to analyze the scientificalness and oneness of the marking form.When marking the emotional connotation,we think the lexicographer should grasp the attachment and systematic,pay attention to the meaning difference and concurrence of different emotional connotation,follow the principle of simplicity.And they also should deepen the knowledge of the emotional connotation’s development.In addition,through the analysis we found that we can judge the emotional connotation by the morpheme,rhetorical device and context.With the help of these methods.we found that there are 170 entries should be marked the emotional connotation.
