A Comparative Study Between Lan Bo And Li Jinfa

Li Jinfa is the first symbolist poet of China.Arthur Rimbaud is a representative figure of the French symbolist poetry.Although Li's pioneering role in symbolism literature has been recognized by Chinese critics,opinion on the value of his work vary across the field,because of the obscurity and ambiguousness of the language used.However,it is paramount to recognize that Li's works are innovative,and even revolutionary,in terms of symbolism and modernism.Sharing many similarities with Rimbaud's thoughts on poetry,Li plays a pioneering role in Chinese modern literature.This paper aims to compare the poems of Li Jinfa and Rimbaud,carry out an comprehensive,in-depth,and detailed research on the two poets,exploring the revolutionary character and modernity of their works.Understanding their cultural background,this paper analyses the similarities and differences between the poets,as well as traditional Chinese literature and French symbolism,eventually reaches a new understanding of Li Jinfa's poetry.This paper consists of four chapters.Chapter I introduces the life and works of the two poets,drawing a big picture of their poetry through their life story and how they have pursued literature.Chapter II makes a detailed analysis and comparison between the two poets' view of literature and art,highlighting their similarity in use of impressionism techniques in poems.Chapter III further analyzes the similarities and differences of their themes,writing techniques and use of imagery,as well as how Li have referenced to Rimbaud in his works.The last chapter summarizes Li Jinfa's acceptance of Rimbaud.By examining the influence from the east and the west to his work,the value,impact,and innovativeness of his poems are also reevaluated.Lastly,this paper suggests how his work could serve as a valuable reference for modern Chinese poetry.
