On The Relationship Between Improvisation And Dance Creation

The article is mainly focused on to rebuild the knowledge of improvisation,and to investigate the relationship of improvisation and choreography.The goal is to discuss with the value and meaning of improvisation in creation.The art of improvisation,founded in 1962,started from an important showcase which hosted by several artists in Judson Church.After that,the founder of Contact Improvisation,Steve Paxton,who did series of exploration and experiment in body and dance form changing,and finally created a new sight in dance area,which called Contact Improvisation Technique.Until now,the training of improvisation technique has become a required course in American high dance education,which especially helped dance students to build up their own body sensation,imagination,and creation,etc.In this article,my point of view is not only to discuss about its foundation and approach,instead,I will be investigating the relationship with improvisation technique and choreography;improvisation forms and structures,and the mental reaction of improvisers.I will be based on the creative process of my thesis showcase to identify that,improvisation is as a way of training my dancers' bodies,and as part of my choreographic process,this practice gives me a vehicle to inhabit the body's sense of agency,to empower self-knowledge,to approach cultural exchange,to resist violence and to engage respectfully with the world.
