<The Second String Quartet> composed by Karol Szymanowski combined the elements of Poland folk music with creative techniques of modern twentieth century.It integrates the distinctive individual characteristics and national features,which is the most representative work of chamber music by Karol Szymanowski in his later composition.It fully showed the melody features,polytonality,and non-functional harmonic language of Poland folk music in details,which has special significance to the development of Poland folk music and to the process of diversification of the world music.This paper selects <The Second String Quartet> as the research object.In the preface,the paper introduces the style development of Karol Szymanowski in his three periods of music composition,and explains <The Second String Quartet> with four chapters.The first chapter analyzes the structural characteristics and its development of theme materials.Also,this chapter generalizes the features of musical structure of the three movements.The second chapter summarizes the diversity and complexity of tonality,generalizing the unique application of the mode and tonality.The third chapter,which is the key point of this paper,analyzes the application of harmony materials and the characteristics of harmonic process step by step,from the tonality to materials,from the outside to the inside.The fourth chapter sums up the general characteristics in the creation of <The Second String Quartet>,using the tree of life to summarize the emphasis and the whole article.In general,This paper tries to analyze <The Second String Quartet> from many aspects,and explores the reason of its popularity on the background of the social cultural and historical surroundings of the nineteeth Century and beginning of the twentieth Century,as well as his life experiences and creative ideas.
