Research On The Rules Of Word Formation In Chinese Two-syllable New Words

In the new century, words that reflect the new look of society emerge in an endless stream. With the advantage of the network, people almost every day will come into contact with new words. Standard Chinese dictionary such as Modern Chinese Dictionary collects neologisms timely with each revision, in addition to all kinds of new words dictionary. Previous studies have focused more on the more popular and less stable neologisms, but do less investigation on the new words which have been gradually stabilized and have expressive force. In addition, in the study of new words, the study of word formation rules is not thorough, and most of them are slightly analysis from the angle of word formation. Besides, here are less semantic analysis.In view of this, this paper investigates the new added words of the latest edition of modern Chinese Dictionary (Seventh Edition).And then this paper select the new words, define the meaning of "new". The new words that have new form and content could be called "bran-new" words. If the form, content, or usage is only one new,these new words could be called "half new" words. So the new form, the new separation of meanings or the reuse of old words all would be included in the "half new" words.The study of the word formation rules of the new words, from the perspective of the combination of grammar and semantics, from the surface to the deep semantic analysis, to fully understand the rules of word formation of Chinese new words. From the perspective of grammar, this paper mainly studies the word formation of new words, which can be classified into eight categories, such as "Subject-Predicate Type", " Verb + object Type", "Verb-complement Type", "Attribute-center word Type", " Adverbial-center word Type" , " United Type", "Verb-sequence Type" and"Additional Type ".In addition, this paper look at the corresponding relations between each word formation and part of speech separately, find that that most of the new words' part of speech are determined by the grammatical attributes of the core components. Besides, the position of the core in each type of structure is generally fixed. It is found that the semantic relations between the components of the new words are complicated.From the semantic point of view, the predicate structure analysis method is used to describe the semantic structure of the new words. The semantic structure is called"single construction", accounting for about half, the word formation of which is on the same semantic level. Whereas the semantic structure of half of the new words is"complex construction",most of them are on the basis of "single construction” and the semantic level has 3-4.Therefore, we couldn't accurately grasp the actual meaning of this kind of words only from the formal structure analysis.In summary, we hope to grasp the word formation rules of Chinese disyllabic neologism from the perspective of grammar and semantics, have a better understanding of the neologism, and deepen the understanding of Chinese word formation theory. Finally,we hope that this can provide a useful reference for the development and application of word formation theory.
