Objectification Theory asserts that women are always exposed to outside objectification, as the objectification towards women shows the hierarchy in patriarchal society. Objectification towards women means reducing woman into sex objects. Women would internalize those objectifying gaze and use those standards to restrain themselves after being objectified by others, where self-objectification occurs.Authoritarianism is one kind of personalities that is quite related to sexism. This study is an investigation about the relationships between self-objectification and authoritarianism personality, and how they are influenced by threats and social comparison.A questionnaire about self-objectification and authoritarianism was used in study one. Result shows that there is no direct relationship between the two of them.In study two, 15 pictures portraying different kinds of threats were shown to 100 participants, they were asked to evaluate their fear towards the threats those pictures portrayed. After that, they were asked to fill out the questionnaires about self-objectification and authoritarianism. 100 other participants were recruited as compare group. Result shows that, a. facing threats would be one of the causes of self-objectification; b. women high in authoritarianism compared to women non-authoritarianism were more likely to objectify themselves after facing threats; c.facing threats causes self-objectification of those women high in authoritarianism, but not of non- authoritarianism women's.In total 250 women from age 18-25 participated in study 3, and a wide-agreed social standard of perfect body was provided to participants to compare themselves with. Result shows that those women who were high in authoritarianism and thought their appearances failed the standard showed the highest possibility of self-objectification than those women who were high in authoritarianism and were more beautiful according to the standard.
