Wang Tao copied "Strange Tales from Liaozhai" and wrote three novels,which are "Dun Ku Lan Yan ","Song Yin Man Lu "and "Song Bin Suo Hua ".Wang Tao constructed a paradise far away from war through his mystery novels.The study reported in this thesis aims to re-examine and analyze the value and significance of the novel on the basis of Wang Tao's personals factors,special historical background and the mutual influence between Wang Tao,the works and the social environment.The first chapter mainly analyzes the various themes of Wang Tao's mystery novels.Wang Tao's novels in general can be divided into three categories:Encountering ghosts(love affairs);building a magical wonderland,criticizing reality(accusing the war).Three themes are not independent,they interact with each other.The second chapter mainly explains the influence of Wang Tao's thought on his mystery novels.First of all,Wang Tao made up the defect of real emotion with mystery novels.Secondly,Wang Tao gave the adventure spirit to the protagonist of the novel.He explored the overseas world through the plot of the novel.Finally,as the traditional Confucian intellectuals,Wang Tao expressed his hope for the country and society through his mystery novels.The third chapter mainly explores the influence of Wang Tao's personal experience and social historical environment on his mystery novels.He updated the identity of the hero and heroine of the novels and gave them an unusual historical mission,through such a setting to support his expectations of the country and society.At the same time,Wang Tao has also made some innovations in his novel writing methods.The fourth chapter mainly focuses on the influence of foreign culture on Wang Tao's mystery novels.Taking Wang Tao's life tortuous experience as reference:Wang Tao was born in Suzhou in 1828,He went to Shanghai Mohai publishing house in 1849,engaged in translation work.In 1862,he was wanted by the Qing government and fled to Hongkong.Five years later,Invited by his friend,he traveled to European countries and returned to Hongkong for three years.In 1879,invited by Japanese friends,he lived in Japan for more than 100 days.In 1884,Li Hongzhang acquiesced in his return to Shanghai and ended his 23 year exile abroad.Rich overseas experiences have increased Wang Tao's knowledge of the foreign world.He incorporated these facts into his novels and made his novels fresh.Wang Tao also explored the advantages and disadvantages of Confucian culture in the comparison of Chinese and foreign cultures at the same time.The fifth chapter mainly explains the relation between the press media and Wang Tao's strange novels.As is known to all,Wang Tao is the first writer to serialize novels in newspapers.Wang Tao published his novel through newspapers and received corresponding remuneration.At the same time,the newspaper enhanced the sale by Wang Tao's novel.This kind of cooperative relation opened the prelude to the revolution of the novel in a sense.
