This dissertation will explore the possibility of pictural space in Rossetti’s paintings.The introduction will lead the full text,elaborating the purpose of writing and previous research results.Part 1: The space in Rossetti’s painting will divide the spatial expression in the on-board painting into 4 categories,among these are non-time space,time space,representative space and pictural space,which will be the bases for examining the application of spatial expression in Rossetti’s painting.The Annunciation and the use of representative space in Rossetti’s painting will make a specific analysis on The Annunciation which painted in Rossetti’s early life toassess the operation of representative space in artist’s early works.Beata Beatrix and the germ of pictural space will compare painter’s late paintings with that of Paul Cézanne who are recognized as the most typical one who made pictural space possiblity,to answer the question that how far had Rossetti moved toward the picural space.Part2:The space in Cezanne’s painting will vompare the typical images space of Rossetti and Cezanne to explore the possibility of both.Conclusion is the summary for thefirst twoparts above.
