Geling Yan,known as an outstanding Chinese author traveling abroad, has become a popular topic among critics and the public in recent years because her amazing novel and film adaption.Geling Yan always had a strong personality, and that is why people like her. However,since ?the Prisoner Lu Yanshi?, various male character created by her were known by the public. Those male character were more likely to be minor roles in her early works, though became more significant afterwards. This dissertation concentrates on the male characters created by Geling Yan, and introduce the concept called "aphasia". This word will be utilized to describe rough characteristics of those male roles, and more details will be discussed in this dissertation.In the first chapter, this thesis gives a general introduction of Geling Yan's early life and caree r and categorize her male characters, including the men having strong power, the men who getting lost in life and aphasiacs in this dissertation. Additionally, it introduces a certain category called "a phasia" and explain the specific meaning.In the second chapter,the thesis starts from?Sky Bath?,?Over the Sea?,?The Prisoner Lu Yanshi?, ?Flower And Youth?and so forth to discuss three type of "male aphasiac",namely poor disabled, intellectuals who don't have rights to express true thoughts and "double marginalized people". They are more likely to be silent or lonely, forced to confess or expose others or self-discipline. After multiple conflicts, they lost their identities gradually. The reasons are noted in this chapter.In the forth chapter is the most significant chapter. It analyzes why the author wanted to create those "male aphasiacs" based on her personal experience and psychological transition, and childhood trauma, emotional trauma and changes of identity afterwards all trigger changes of male characters. This chapter reveals what the author thought about "caring male" from observing angle changing. In the end, the dissertation reviews and analyzes why some "male aphasiacs" are not successful examples, meanwhile, this chapter simply discusses multiple meanings of creating those kind of male characters.
