This paper is centered on the problem of authenticity of authorship of <Running Script of Thousand Character-Classic > by Sun Guoting.Chapter One examines four different versions of <Running Script of Thousand Character-Classic>: the one collected by Guo Zhongwei which enjoys popularity in Song Dynasty,the one which Mi Fu has seen in person,the one seen by Zeng Zhao,the one complied into <Xuanhe Calligraphy Collection>,and draws a conclusion:these four versions all come from the original one by Sun Guoting.It,then,points out that: in Song Dynasty,there is only one authentic version of <Running Script of Thousand Character-Classic> by Sun Guoting,which was known by the then people.In Chapter Two,the author makes a further exploration based on the examination of main part of <The fifth version of Thousand Character-Classic>collected by Liaoning provincial museum and Wang Shen's postscript.It is pointed out: this version is counterfeited by referring to <Grand Running Script of Thousand Character-Classic> of Huai Su from South Song Dynasty.It overthrows the proposal put forward by Zhang Chou of Ming Dynasty and Yang Renkai of nowadays,which holds that it is facsimile produced by people of Tang Dynasty.Compared with the proposal put forward by Xu Bangda which entertains that it is groundlessly created by people of South Song Dynasty,the proposal made in this paper is a progress.Chapter Three aims at examining the five-colored paper version of <Thousand Character-Classic> collected by Hao Qingchen of Yuan Dynasty.Because the writing version and carved version have been lost,there is no way of getting to know its authenticity of authorship.However,according to what has been recorded in literature,this one is not the one that has been seen by Mi Fu and this is the reason for the conclusion that it cannot be the authentic one by Sun Guoting.Chapter Four examines Sun Guoting 's <Running Script of Thousand Character-Classic> in <Yu Qing Zhai Specimen of Calligraphy> of Ming Dynasty.In the chapter,it is argued that this version is not authentic and it further points out that this version is highly likely to have been faked by someone from Ming Dynasty.In Chapter Five,it is argued that the carved version in <Mo Miao Xuan Specimenof Calligraphy> collected by Qianlong Emperor' Neifu of Qing Dynasty is not authentic.The original one is the one that was written by Wang Sheng of South Song Dynasty.Chapter Six deals with a conjecture about the whereabouts of authentic version of <Running Script of Thousand Character-Classic>: the authentic version may have been destroyed during the Jing Kang Calamity.
