Studying The Culture Of The Holy King And The Etiquette Of The "Sacred Kings Patrol" Festival

This paper investigated the origin and historical development of culture of St.King of Zhangzhou,explained spiritual connotation of culture of St.King of Zhangzhou and analyzed social function and modern significance of culture of St.King of Zhangzhou.As an important part in the culture of St.King of Zhangzhou,“Patrol of St.King”,festival etiquette,was mainly discussed in this paper.It mainly included review of its history,analysis of its forms and contents.At the same time,it investigated effects and significance of art elements of the culture of St.King of Zhangzhou on preservation and dissemination of the culture.This paper was divided into four parts.Firstly,it investigated formation of the culture of St.King of Zhangzhou and introduced the life story of Chen Yuanguang,St.King of Zhangzhou,and the origin of St.King of Zhangzhou.Temples for St.King of Zhangzhou appeared because of respect of later generations for Chen Yuanguang's deeds and the belief custom of the culture of St.King of Zhangzhou is the direct cultural background of “Patrol of St.King”.The next part studied main contents of “Patrol of St.King”,festival etiquette,analyzed artistic forms of expression and cultural function of “Patrol of St.King”.In the third part,it researched common art elements in the culture of St.King of Zhangzhou,such as decorative art,drama,art,film and television,stated their aesthetic connotation and cultural significance.The last part investigated transmission and communication of the culture of St.King of Zhangzhou,mainly including cultural belief of St.King of Zhangzhou in Taiwan and among overseas Chinese.
