The first feature-length color cartoon “uproar in heaven” was released in Chinese cinemas for the first time in 1962.Once the film was released,its rich Chinese flavor and vivid shape immediately attracted widespread attention at home and abroad.As the only “outsiders” in the film factory,Zhang Guangyu's art design is indispensable.The model of the monky king,the protagonist he created,has both the flavor of Chinese art and the characteristics of modern art.It is a good model for studying how to shape the “new and durable”(Zhang Guangyu said)Chinese localized protagonist.Although both the animation and the picture book work express the content of the story through the screen,an excellent protagonist image is the basis for the narrative and charm of the image story.Therefore,the design of the protagonist is one of the most important tasks in animation creation.Through the case analysis of the monky king,the main character in Zhang Guangyu's “ uproar in heaven”,this paper attempts to clarify the cause of this successful classic model from the aspects of Zhang Guangyu's modeling thoughts?style causes,and characteristics of the monky king's modeling.Zhang Guangyu's monky king modeling is undoubtedly influenced by the Chinese folk art?international modern art,and traditional monky king modeling in China and Japan.The process of research and design creation is actually a way for Chinese traditional culture to activate and innovate in the new era.It is at this point that Zhang Guangyu's monky king modeling and its design road have an outstanding pioneering role for today's animation creation(including other artistic creations).
