Military Geography Research In The Eastern Wei And Northern Qi Period Of Shanxi Province

Shanxi Province is dominated by the Eastern Wei Northern Qi Dynasties during the period of "the LaterThree Kingdoms".Gao Huan,the founder inherited the mantle of the Northern Wei Dynasty in the Kanto region,occupying the present entire areas of Shanxi,Hebei and Shandong and parts of Henan,Anhui and Jiangsu.As the seat of prefecture,Shanxi is its political and military center.Shanxi Province is close to the Inner Mongolia Plateau and the Guanzhong Plain,threatened by the Rouran and the Turks to the north,and embezzled by the Western Wei Dynasty and the North Zhou Dynasty to the west.Therefore,the military status of Shanxi in the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties was significant,and the study of military activities and geographical environment in Shanxi during this period is extremely important.The Shanxi area was mainly operated by the Eastern Wei Dynasty and Northern Qi Dynasty.The rulers of the Eastern Wei Dynasty and Northern Qi dynasty developed and utilized the geographical environment of Shanxi Province,topography of mountains and rivers,critical traffic and military towns,and fortified cities,built the Great Wall and military defense lines.This paper studies the military geography of the Eastern Wei Dynasty and the Northern Qi Dynasty in Shanxi Province to analyze the original appearance and utilization of the military geography in the Eastern Wei Dynasty and Northern Qi Dynasty in Shanxi Province.This article is divided into four parts.The first part is the geographical situation of Shanxi and the military geographical environment.The natural situation in Shanxi made this area become a place of Gao.In the confrontation between the Eastern Wei Dynasty and Northern Qi Dynasty and nomadic ethnic groups,it reflected important military geography value.The second part studies the military composition and management of Shanxi Province in Northern Wei and Jin Dynasties in this modern time.It analyzes the military tactics of Eastern Wei and Northern Qi in the space-time environment.The military geography thought of generals,the application of cavalry in fighting in Shanxi Province,the policy of emphasis on North than South and the military center of gravity of Jinyang also highlight the role of Shanxi’s military geography.The third part mainly studies the mountains and rivers in Shanxi during the Eastern Wei Dynasty and Northern Qi Dynasty,the military center and the Great Wall built by them,and studies the military activities from the perspective of space.The fourth part divides the military confrontations in Eastern Wei and Northern Qi into two lines of north and south.Based on typical examples,the war situation,the process of belligerence and the outcome of belligerence are analyzed.The military space is observed and studied in the clues of time,Shanxi plays a decisive role in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties and is the core area of the rulers of Eastern Wei Dynasty and Northern Qi Dynasty.This article observes the position and function of Shanxi from the perspective of history and geographyin this period,and helps to restore the military geography environment during the period of Northern Wei and Jin Dynasties in Shanxi Province.Thus it can also provide some references for the utilization of military geography in Shanxi today,as well as some useful effect.
