Li Baiyou's Immortal Poetry And Women's Poetry Inherited From Cao Zhi

With rich themes and varied styles in his poetry,LiBai has been,undoubtedly,recognized as the brilliant master of Chinese classical poetry.However,to obtain that great achievement,Li has learned from the predecessors ceaselessly.The issue about Li's inheriting from the predecessors such as QuYuan,BaoZhao and XieTiao has been studied by numerous scholars.Nevertheless,the inheriting relation between LiBai and CaoZhi has not been studied profoundly among the academic circles.As an outstanding poet of Jan'an period,CaoZhi,who had been praised as "No one can be comparable to the king of Chen during the Six Dynasties period",has always been popular in history and modern time.Undoubtedly,He is also the person whom LiBai learned and inherited from.Most of the poetry written by LiBai and CaoZhi are poetry about immortals and poetry about women.Therefore this thesis will start from these two kinds of poetry to discuss LiBai's inheritance of CaoZhi.The thesis consists of three chapters except the introduction,its main contents are as follows:The introduction explains tthe significance of the selected topic and the status of the current researches.The first chapter is the analysis of LiBai's main tendency and reasons of affection to CaoZhi.First of all,LiBai approves of CaoZhi's identity and life experiences.CaoZhi was born in a royal family and LiBai declared himself the descendant of the royal house.So he has a sense of noble identity at.least.Furthermore,he has a strong desire to make contributions and.achievements as Cao,but he failed to get the monarch's favor.What's more,they are slandered by others and succeed in vain.In addition,they shared the same gift in writing.They both were talented poets who also read extensively and learned widely.As for their characteristics,they seemed to be chivalrous and unceremonious but did not conceal their true emotions.Furthermore,they showed similar lyrical skills in writing poetry.They were expert in using the two rhetorical techniques Bi and Xing when creating poems.In the using of Bi and Xing,the lyrical carriers of immortals and women were more than any other elements.Moreover,lots of CaoZhi pomes with high quality and various types were selected into Literary Selections which was studied profoundly by LiBai,and Li also valued Jian'an literature highly.Thereafter,it can be claimed that he learned from CaoZhi in some degree.The second chapter presents the analysis of the inheriting relation between LiBai and CaoZhi from the poems whose theme is about immortal.It will be elaborated through the following three aspects which are the rational awareness in celestial thoughts,the choosing of imagery about immortals and the way of writing.LiBai inherited the way of writing poems about immortals to express his emotions.In the fanatic celestial thoughts his love and care towards the real world were conveyed.He also inherited the way to choose imagery from CaoZhi.He used the imagery about time and space which implied Li's pursuit of freedom,life and the value of life.The way of structuring was portrayed by the writing techniques like structuring-framing,clear self-image,describing of scenery,combination of virtuality and reality,etc.The third chapter shows LiBai's inheritance of CaoZhi's women poetry.It can be expounded through the following three aspects which are the content of the theme,poetry style and the way of writing.As for the theme,their poems mainly focused on reflecting social reality and expressing their feelings of their unrecognized talents.Mentioning to poetry style,on one hand,their poetry conveyed the depressed and aggrieved feelings.On the other hand,the poetry presented the two energetic and generous poets.For the inheritance of structuring,both LiBai and CaoZhi were good at starting and ending a poem.In addition,the structuring and formatting also indicated that LiBai had learned from CaoZhi.They were expert in mapping out a piece of writing and they treated the combination between narrating and emotion-expressing as great importance.Last but not least,they both often use the figures of speech such as metaphor and symbolism to strengthen the power of expression so that the expressing would be more accurate and the aroma more profound.
