The cultural output to and destruction of China from imperialist powers is an important part of their invasion to China.Since modern times, imperialist powers had set up a large number of cultural institutions in China to develop their cultural forces, such as religious organizations, church schools, hospitals, charity and relief agencies, news communication agencies, entertainment agencies, etc.due to the expanding needs of political, economic and military aggression after their invasion of China. These cultural institutions were dominated by foreign missionaries or foreign groups or individuals to exclude Chinese culture and control the spiritual life of the majority of the Chinese people. The reactionary forces hidden in these cultural institutions even vainly attempted to destroy the cultural construction of New China and threaten the socialdevelopment and stability. In the early days of New China, the Communist Party of China(CPC)implemented a policy of "maintain its original form and transform it gradually" among the imperialist cultural institutions in China according to the objective requirements of the domestic and foreign situation, and had achieved preliminary results. After the outbreak of the Korean War,the CPC decided to speed up the handling of the remaining imperialist forces in the imperialist cultural institutions in China.By 1954,the takeover and removal of the remaining imperialist cultural forces had been completed basically, which not only safeguarded the cultural security of New China, but also promoted the smooth development of various construction undertakings. The methods and experience of the CPC in the handling of the remaining imperialist cultural forces in China in the early days of New China are also of important guiding significance to coping with foreign cultural shock, safeguarding national cultural security and carrying out construction activities of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics in contemporary China. The full paper spreads out exposition from three parts of introduction, body, and conclusion. The first part is the introduction, which mainly introduces the research background, selected topic significance, literature review, research ideas and innovation points to be realized, and elaborates the related concepts. The second part is the body, which consists of the first five chapters. The first chapter gives an overview of the imperialist cultural forces in China before the founding of the People ’ s Republic of China(PRC),as well as an explanation from three aspects of the background of imperialist invasion of China, the evolution of imperialist cultural forces in China, and the overview of specific cultural institutions. The second chapter discusses the policy of“maintain its original form and transform it gradually”proposed by the CPC for the imperialist cultural institutions in China in the early days of New China, introduces the formulation process of this policy, points out that this policy is concluded from the ideas of the party and government leaders as well as a lot of discussions with the leaders of religious institutions, and explains the following aspects:the basis for the formulation of this cultural policy is that this policy conforms to the requirements of Marxist religious outlook and cultural outlook as well as the requirements of the situation at home and abroad;the cultural transformation undertaking should be placed behind the political and economic stability;part of the imperialist religious believers and cultural organization members in China support the revolution, and the imperialist cultural and educational institutions are objectively progressive to a certain extent. The third chapter discusses the implementation of the policy of“maintain its original form and continue to transform it" as well as the resistance of the remaining imperialist cultural forces in China, and summarizes the specific measures taken to implement this policy, including takeover of imperialist propaganda organs, protection of the freedom of religious belief, protection and gradual reform of church schools, implementation of the policy of "maintain its original form”among medical relief agencies and entertainment agencies, and protection of foreigners in China. For the handling guidelines adopted by the CPC,the remaining imperialist forces in China mainly carried out resistance and destruction in many aspects such as destroying the stability and development of New China through the cultivation of spies, controlling schools through churches to resist the new democratic culture transformation, and abusing the poor people through relief agencies in China. The fourth chapter describes that the CPC sped up the removal of the remaining imperialist cultural forces in China. It introduces the historical background of the event that the CPC sped up the removal of imperialist cultural forces in China, explains the reasons for policy adjustment, and explains that the specific measures of the adjusted policy include accelerating the pace of "continue to transform it" by adjusting the overall cultural policy, recover the religious autonomy by promoting the "Three-Self Movement" of religious groups, speeding up the takeover of church schools and relief agencies, etc. After the introduction of the new cultural policy, the anti-imperialist patriotic personages in the imperialist cultural institutions in China successively expressed their support for the decision of the party and the government. They expressed their determination to cut off relations with imperialism by organizing signature activities, patriotic parades, complaint assemblies, etc. The fifth chapter summarizes and evaluates the experience and significance of the successful removal of the remaining imperialist cultural forces in China after the founding of New China,as well as the removal of the imperialist cultural forces in China by the CPC,and concludes that after more than five years of efforts since the founding of New China, the imperialist churches in China basically achieved self-reliance and self-support,the church schools, charity and relief agencies, and cultural institutions in China were taken over successfully, and thereactionaries and spies hidden in cultural institutions were arrested and expelled, indicating a victory in the removal of the remaining imperialist cultural forces. Then it affirms the historical significance of removing the remaining imperialist cultural forces in China, points out that this victory maintained the cultural sovereignty of New China, enhanced the sense of mission of the Chinese people, carried forward the spirit ofpatriotism, cleared away obstacles for the transmission of new democratic culture, andpromoted the victory of the suppression of counterrevolutionaries, the land reform and the movement to resist U.S.aggression and aid Korea, and sums up the historical experience in the removal of the remaining imperialist cultural forces in China, that is,always adhere to the unified leadership of the party and the government, timely adjust policy to conform to the objective reality, mobilize all the positive factors among the masses and lay emphasis on the work of "destroy the old and establish the new" in cultural construction. The third part is the conclusion, which makes a brief summary and evaluation of the full paper.
