Police Interrogation Interpreting Report

Globalization brings benefits to all countries while at the same time, it causes a series of globalization issues. O ne of them is drug-smuggling. Drug production, processing, trafficking and consumption have formed a deep-rooted international network. The increasing international smugglers have added the workload of Customs Bureau. At the same time, the demand for police interrogation interpreters has been increasing rapidly. Interpreters, as an indispensable group for the police interrogation, can help to remove language barriers between police officers and the suspects, which play an irreplaceable role in information dissemination.This report is based on the author?s interpreting experience in Anti-Smuggling Bureau of Guangzhou Customs. The main parts of the report include the pre-task preparation, on-site interpreting description and post-task assessment. In the second chapter, the author elaborates on the features and challenges of the task. Based on the challenges, the author has made a series of pre-task preparation. In addition, the complicated role of the interpreter, a service provider as well as a coordinator, is highlighted in this report.What is police interrogation interpreting? What is the difference between police interrogation interpreting and other forms of interpreting? Based on these questions, the author has recorded her experience of police interrogation interpreting, and has transcribed the whole interpreting process. By demonstrating the case, the author hopes to give some references to those who have interest in police interrogation interpreting and to provide them with further understanding of police interrogation interpreting and related skills and strategies so as to improve interpreting quality.
