The colorful music and dancing images in Dunhuang murals provide extremely valuable image materials for the study of dance history and theory,and also provide rich material for contemporary dance creation.As Dunhuang Grottoes were built by Buddhists of all generations as places for spiritual practice and pilgrimage,the murals in the grottos are all for the expression of Buddhist doctrine and connotation.The Dunhuang murals also serve as a Buddhist art image.It was born and objectively promoted the manifestation and spread of Buddhist thoughts and ideas.Therefore,it is necessary to carry out in-depth excavation and exploration of the Buddhist implication contained therein.This has positive significance for us to understand the artistic image of mural music and dance more fully and objectively.This paper starts with the expression of Dunhuang murals on the concept of Buddhist music and dance,and focuses on the music and dance in the Western pure land illustration of the Tang Dynasty.On the one hand,from the perspective of dance history and dance aesthetics,this paper analyzes the aesthetic interpretation of the image of the mural music and dance for Buddhism.On the other hand,from the perspective of the Dharma spirit and philosophical principles,the demeanor of the persona with a sense of dance in the mural is discussed,and its significance to the study of mural music and dance is analyzed.Through the study of this article,we will further expand the research perspective of Dunhuang mural music and dance,and at the same time provide some references for contemporary Dunhuang dance creation.
